From Alan Becker Animation vs channel on Youtube

A message from Alan Becker. Celebrating 20 years of Animation.

Twenty years ago today, on June 3, 2006, I uploaded the very first Animator vs. Animation.

What started as a spontaneous stick figure passion project on my homeschool laptop turned into something I never could have imagined: millions of viewers, a crazy talented team of artists, and a whole universe of characters that grew far beyond a single FLA file.

Over the past twenty years, every project pushed me (and the team) to learn something new. The animations became bigger, the stories became more ambitious, and the team behind them grew from just one weirdo into a huge web of weirdos all over the world.

One happy accident that I’m especially grateful for is that because the characters don’t speak, they’ve brought together viewers from all corners of the globe. No matter where you’re from or what language you speak, a story told through animation can make you laugh, cry, or feel physical discomfort. I hope these videos have helped bring people together, even in some small way.

To celebrate 20 years of Animator vs. Animation, I’m releasing a special metal poster featuring all of the major characters from across the series. The artwork is printed directly onto metal, with the white highlights left unprinted so the metal itself shines through.

(link available in original post) I know a metal poster won’t be accessible to everyone, and that’s okay. The anniversary itself is what matters most to me. The poster is simply a way for me to commemorate the milestone with a product I felt was worthy of the occasion. For those who would still like to celebrate with me, I’m also releasing a high-resolution wallpaper version of the artwork (drawn by the amazing IO) for free. Link is in the listing.

Thank you to everyone who has watched, shared, animated, theorized, memed, and supported this journey over the years. You guys are so overwhelmingly supportive and I wish I could duplicate myself so I could give each of you the proper appreciation you deserve.

Here’s to the next chapter!

Thank you Alan! You were the first YouTube animator that I subscribed to in middle school. I’m so excited to see what the future holds for you!

The fact you make such beautiful animations for FREE is absolutely diabolical, you’re living proof that real art doesn’t require million dollar budgets or big studios, just a man and some ideas. Your stories are some of my favourite in all of fiction. Thank you alan

In case you don’t know who Alan Becker is … he’s a guy who animates stick figures on youtube even though that’s more of an oversimplification. You can just check out his animation vs addiction video featured in the gallery videos.
