Deepseek R1 is the company's side project

Additional comments:

The sudden rise of Deepseek R1 has left many industry experts questioning the financial model behind such powerful open source artificial intelligence. Recent revelations suggest that the company is effectively a side project born from High-Flyer, a prominent quantitative trading firm. This firm consists of elite mathematicians and engineers who possess massive computational resources originally intended for high frequency trading and data analysis. Instead of letting their extensive GPU clusters sit idle during off peak hours, they decided to leverage their existing hardware to train advanced language models. This unique approach highlights how resource optimization can lead to massive technological breakthroughs in the AI landscape. The project is essentially a clever way to maximize the utility of their infrastructure, proving that innovation often happens when smart teams find new uses for their existing assets.
