A Cat That Has Published 3 Physics Papers -Felis Domesticus Chester Willard
The most knowledgeable cat by citations.
This cat has published 3 physics papers including one on ‘Solid helium 3: a nuclear antiferromagnetic element’
Explained by user @paularambles on Twitter/XThere’s actually a fun backstory to this: the owner of this cat, a physicist, had written a paper using “we,” but the journal wouldn’t allow plural pronouns for a single author, so rather than retyping the whole manuscript (on a typewriter), he just added his cat as a co-author
The world of academia is full of strange tales but few are as charming as the story of Felis Domesticus Chester Willard. This cat managed to earn a place in the annals of physics history by appearing as a co-author on three distinct research papers. The unique origin of this accomplishment lies in a practical solution to a mundane editorial problem. A physicist named Jack Hetherington had written a significant manuscript regarding low temperature physics. He utilized the plural pronoun we throughout the text to describe his findings. When the journal insisted that he use singular pronouns for a solo author, he faced the tedious prospect of retyping the entire document on a manual typewriter. Rather than endure that process, he chose to add his beloved Siamese cat as a co-author. The journal accepted the submission and F.D.C. Willard became an unlikely scientific legend. Even today, the cat remains one of the most cited feline researchers in the history of nuclear physics.
